The following menus require the FinderMenu package for Frontier.
Installation
Double-clicking on the "LEVEL 6 Utilities #1" file will install the "LEVEL6Utils" menubar in the scratchpad. Open the scratchpad table and copy the object "LEVEL6Utils". Now open the FinderMenu menubar (system.menubars.─MNU), select the menu item that you would like the menu placed below, and paste. Back in the Finder, double-click on the file "commands.creatorChanger" to install that. Now save. Switch to the Finder and your Finder Menu will now have a new menu item and submenus.
Creator Change
Select a text file or PICT file, then choose the name of the application you wish to open that file with. Creator Change will change the file's creator signature. If it beeps then the file was not of the appropriate type. To cause the Finder to update the file's icon, simply Get Info on it (Command I). To add other word processors and graphic programs, just open the menu editor, duplicate one of the existing menu items, open the script, and edit the file's creator signature.
Note that TeachText can toggle between "Read Only" and plain text. You cannot change a Word file, for example, directly to TeachText Read Only. You must first make it a TeachText TEXT file. Same is true for going from Read Only. First make it a TeachText TEXT file, then convert the creator. TeachText 7.0 also views PICT files, lest we forget.
True life story: This Read Me was written in CONText II (a really great fast, small memory, text editor) and then turned into a TeachText document with the Creator Change command.
Creator Get-Info
Select a document icon, then choose this menu item. You will be presented with a "Get Info" box for the creating application for this file. Why? Too often we are working with a document, and perhaps the memory partition for the application needs to be changed. Maybe it's a huge Photoshop file. So you need to adjust he memory partition setting for Photoshop. But where is Photoshop? Hidden deep within folders. But with this menu item, all you have to do is select the file (which is right in front of you), and then choose the menu setting. Voilê! The "Get Info" box is open.
INIT/cdev Enable (Toggle)
This toggles the enabled status of a Finder selected INIT or cdev (INIT -> xNIT, cdev ->xdev). This is not intended as a replacement for INIT management programs, simply an adjunct. Sometimes I find myself in the Extensions or Control Panels folder, staring at an icon with an "X" through it (NOW StartUp Manager does this neat trick). I want to enable that INIT, so I have to go to the Apple Menu, choose StartUp Manager, find the INIT and click on it (Yes, it IS a lot of work, isn't it?). But with this fabulous Frontier menu, you just select the icon and choose INIT/cdev Enable. You can force the Finder to update the icon by getting info on the file.
Mount'em
This simply fires off FKEY #9, which for me is the Mount'em FKEY. Set it however you want it.
Path To Clipboard
Select a file, then choose this menu item. The file's path will be placed on the clipboard (a VERY useful thing).
SynchroMan
Launches my PowerBook/base computer file synchronizing suite. Does "Synchronize and Retrieve." SynchroMan is available in the UserLand forum and on America Online Utilities forum.
